The Importance of Local Elections

Scholarship Contest

Todd County DFL is offering a $1,000 scholarship to Seniors and first year post-secondary students. The scholarship will be offered to the student who creates the most impactful video or document describing “The Importance of Local Elections”.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Live in Todd County
  • A high school Senior or in your first year of college (2 or 4 year) or technical school.

Scholarship Timeline

  • February 1 to May 31st, 2020. applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM May 31st. 
  • Scholarships will be evaluated in June and July
  • Winner will be announced at the Todd County Fair, in local newspapers, the Todd County DFL website (https://toddcountydfl.org), by email,  and by US mail.
  • Disbursement of funds to the college of your choice will be after proof of enrollment is provided.

Scholarship Guidelines

  • In a 30 second to 3 minute  video essay or a 500 word or less typed essay on the importance of local elections.
  • Submissions focused on statewide or national elections essays will be disqualified
  • Submissions endorsing a candidate or political party will be disqualified.
  • Submissions will be judged on content and the ability to deliver an impactful message.
  • Submissions will be judged by non-local impartial judges who will not have the name of the entrant.
  • Video essays must be loaded on You-Tube and marked Public. A link to the video must be emailed to toddcountydfl@gmail.com  by 11:59 PM May 31st.
  • Typed essays must be emailed as an attachment to toddcountydfl@gmail.com by 11:59 PM May 31st.
  • Email must have:
    • Your name 
    • Your Telephone Number
    • Your email Address
    • You US mail Address
    • Institution you are or will be attending

Resources Available to Contestants

  • Help with word processing will be available at the Great River Libraries in Long Prairie, Staples, and Grey Eagle.
  • Help with videos and word processing will be available at A. John Peters Computer Services at 221 Central Avenue, Long Prairie. Make an appointment to receive help or create a video by calling 612-419-4033.

Todd County DFL reserves the right to publish essays by print or electronically at your school, on Todd County DFL’s website or Facebook page.
