Expense of Making Friends With Russia at the Expense of China

Our government is making very friendly with the Russian government while poking the Chinese. This has gone as far as threatening armed conflict the South China Sea. (Steve Bannon 2/1/2017).

I feel there are some inherent risks in this policy. From an economic standpoint (talking as a computer nerd), China is a more necessary partner than is Russia. If you look at your computer equipment (Computer, routers, phones, TVs) most would not work without parts from China. All I see from Russia is oil. Since we are an exporter of oil, we can live without the extra profits for Exxon. Since we rely so heavily on our technology, it would talk several years if not decades to become less dependent on China.
